Dr. Klimaschewski was born in Germany 1965 and graduated as MD from the University of Hamburg in 1991. He received the PhD (Habilitation) in Anatomy and Cell Biology from the University of Heidelberg in 1997. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Pathology (Center for Neuroscience), Columbia University, New York, USA, he became Professor at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, in 1999 and is currently Director of the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology at the Medical University Innsbruck and interim head of the Division of Histology & Embryology. Lars Klimaschewski had been the Austrian representative of COST action B30 (Neural Regeneration and Plasticity, NEREPLAS 2006-2010) and ERASMUS coordinator of the Medical University Innsbruck (2002-2008). He was invited as guest professor to Belgium (University of Antwerp), China (Capital University Beijing), Czech Republic (University of Brno), Serbia (University of Belgrade) and Spain (University of the Basque Country). He served as member of the board of the Anatomical Society (as president in 2018) and organizes the Alpine Anatomical Research Conference in Obergurgl/Tyrol.
